We offer a variety of different approaches, a pedagogical approach that we follow is Reggio Emilia. We have implemented this by providing a child led approach and allowing the children to learn through play and experiences. In doing this, we offer a range of resources which encourages the children to explore using their senses.
The concept of Reggio Emilia was to ensure that the children have a say in what they learn, he also developed the idea of heavily involving the child's senses into their development and play to ensure that they can fully absorb their experiences.
It also states that children should be encouraged to explore through their relationships that they build into friendships, with our activity, we provide lots of opportunities for the children to absorb the world around them through playing and exploring with their friends. As well as this, it also states about using materials and resources to explore which we do by providing a range of open ended resources which promotes conversation and creativity.
Similar to this, we also follow the curiosity approach which we use when providing the children with opportunities to explore the resources in their own way. We have lots of open ended resources to allow the children to play and explore them in their own way. In doing this, it allows the children to be the centre of their own play.
The curiosity approach encourages the children to be adventurous and explore the world around them through their own free play. A big part of the curiosity approach is to provide the children with the chances to be the pilots of their own play. This makes it so that they center their own development and explore and learn in the way that works best for them. We value this greatly at Joyful Journeys by how we take the approach of seeing every child as an individual and encouraging and supporting them in a way that meets their needs and interest.
As well as this, we also take the approach to ensure that we are encouraging independence with the children such as encouraging the children to put on their own coats, tidying up after themselves and putting on their shoes. We also provide opportunities for the children to use the home away from home environment and take part in activities useful for everyday life such as cutting up food, gardening and having role play to copy the world around them.
The importance in encouraging the children with their independence makes it so that they feel more prepared for school and we are happy to support families with this at home to help them to promote this at home as well. Another benefit for encouraging independence is that it will help to promote confidence for the children because of how, it will help them to feel pride in themselves for when they accomplish a task and will support them in continuing to do this task once they know what they are doing.
