Here At Joyful Journeys We Support Positive Behaviour!

How We View Behaviour Within Children and The Importance of It

At Joyful Journeys Childcare, we believe in providing a safe and nurturing environment for your child to learn and grow. As part of this, a big part of what we promote with the children is supporting them with positive behaviour. We believe that in order to fully promote positive behaviour, it is important to monitor every part of behaviour and give positive attention to the children.

We believe that children will regularly use their behaviour as a way to communicate how they feel. We are very aware on the impacts of why a child may find it more challenging to show positive behaviour, examples of when this may happen includes:

  • Feeling anxious
  • Being hungry
  • Being tired
  • Not feeling like their needs are being met
  • Wanting positive attention
  • Feeling emotional
  • Exploring their emotions and learning more about the world
  • Dealing with changes

How We Promote Positive Behaviour At Our Setting

At Joyful Journeys, we regularly use the terms kind hands, kind feet, kind words, kind teeth. This provides the children with an understanding on the word "kind" and helps them to know that being kind is the right choice to make.

We also like to provide lots of opportunities for the children to take part in activities which promotes cooperative play and sharing to ensure that the children are considering their friends when they are playing. We always ensure to offer praise for the children when they show positive behaviour, such as taking turns or comforting friends for example.

We find it very important to explore our emotions with the children and help them to understand more about them and how to express. We ensure to acknowledge that it's okay for the children to have these emotions. We find that in doing this, it helps the child to feel heard and therefore builds more of a bond and trust with us.

As well as this, we find it vitally important to identify different emotions and discuss with the children about what can make us feel this way. In doing this, it can help the children to understand why they may feel the way they are and therefore may discuss with an adult who can then support them with this.
